Dr Tran Volong Dao

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon

Dr. Volong Dao earned his Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree from the Université de Montréal before completing his specialty training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Montefiore/Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York. During his residency, he received comprehensive training in anesthesia and sedation, dentoalveolar surgery, orthognathic surgery, and dental implantology.

After returning to Quebec in 2009, Dr. Dao established his private practice while pursuing an academic career at the Université de Montréal. As a faculty member, he is actively involved in the education of both undergraduate dental students and residents.

Recognized for his leadership and commitment to teaching, he was appointed Chief of the Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the Université de Montréal in 2011 and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2015. In recognition of his excellence in education, he has twice received the Jean Yergeau Award for Teaching Excellence.

Dr. Dao also maintains an active hospital practice at St. Mary’s Hospital and the Jewish General Hospital in Montreal. His hospital-based practice focuses primarily on orthognathic surgery and complex maxillofacial reconstruction, providing multidisciplinary care for patients with challenging surgical needs. In 2022, he was appointed Chief of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at St. Mary’s Hospital.

Dr. Dao is a Fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada, a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, and a Diplomate and Fellow of the American Dental Society of Anesthesiology.

Committed to advancing his specialty, Dr. Dao plays an active leadership role within the Quebec Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, where he serves on the Executive Board. In 2026, he was elected President of the Association.

Beyond his clinical and academic responsibilities, Dr. Dao is dedicated to giving back to his community. He volunteers with youth sports programs, particularly as a hockey coach, where he enjoys mentoring young athletes and promoting the values of teamwork, discipline, and perseverance.
